Shelley Lashley, is a Philadelphia native who football player for the Philadelphia Passion. The Trinidadian-American beauty is a perfect combination of beauty, brains, and brawn. Check my interview with her:

Jameela: Can you tell the people what it is that you do for a living?
Shelley: I have a Science degree from Penn State and I currently work at Pennsylvania Hospital as Patient Care Observer. And I’m back in school for my Nursing degree.
Jameela: You also play for the in the Lingerie Football League. Can you explain what the Lingerie Football League is?
Shelley: The LFL is REAL football, it’s 7-on- 7, full contact, tackle football. We play just like the guys pretty much except we play in sports bras and boy shorts, helmets, shoulder pads, elbow pads, and knee pads…and we try to kill each other. You have your eyebrow raised…, Jameela: Because it sounds painful!

Jameela: What position(s) do you play?
Shelley:I play linebacker (defense) and tight end (offense).
Jameela: I notice arena styles vary, Do you guys play indoor or outdoor?
Shelley: The Passion play in an indoor arena [Sun National Bank Center, Trenton, NJ], but some teams to play outdoors. There are teams that have actually played in the snow. But for the 2013 season, which is when we will be starting up again, we are going to be a Spring/Summer league.
Jameela: What prompted the move to a Spring/Summer season?
Shelley: It will put us opposite of the NFL season and because the United States has a lot of Fall/Winter sports teams it is hard to get venues then. Moving to Spring/Summer will make it easier for us to play football.
Jameela: The Passion is a pretty good team. You were the Eastern Conference Champions for the 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 seasons, right?
Shelley: Yes, we lost to the Los Angeles Temptations both years. Meela: Don’t worry, you’ll get them this year., Shelley: I hope so.
Jameela: Have you always been athletic?
Shelley: Absolutely, in high school I was a cheerleader and in college I did ice skating and Judo. I’ve also done gymnastics, so yeah I like to stay active.
Jameela: What are some of the benefits you receive playing in the LFL?
Shelley: Well, I absolutely LOVE it, it’s a lot of fun. Also, all the workouts and conditioning keep me in shape…definitely helps with body image. Plus I love hanging out with the other players, everyone is family on our team.
Jameela: What are the requirements to make the team? Like, are all the players model types? *laughs*
Shelley: So the first season they were looking for models who could play football. Second season it was more about athletes who looked like models. So now it’s more about athletes who look good. I mean there are girls who come in thinking it’s all fun and games. They don’t know how to hit or anything and they are the ones who get first. It’s not a game…last year I didn’t play at all, I lost my spot.
Jameela: You have to try out every year?!?
Shelley: Yes, every year I have to try out for a spot. This year I’m really focused on fighting for my spot. We had initial tryouts and I received the email inviting me mini-camp.
Jameela: Mini-Camp? Explain.
Shelley: Mini-camp is a weekend of intense football. It’s crazy workouts and conditioning and learning everything you can about the game of football and going hard. It’s also, where you fight for your spot on the team.
Jameela: What are some of your other interest?
Shelley: Modeling and acting. Actually, in two weeks, I’m doing a photo shoot and putting together a package for New York Fashion Week. So we’ll see what happens.

Jameela: Shelley, thank you so much for taking the time to talk to me. Is there anything would want to say to the readers of www.sophisticatedignorance.net? Shelley: Watch us next season! And thank you.
