Food & Travel | Portsmouth NH & Kittery Maine | #SoPhi’s Weekend Getaway Series

This is actually my favorite place to go for relaxation out of all the places I’ve been in the United States. Keep in Mind I average 15-21k Frequent Flyer Miles per year. I kind of liken Portsmouth to New England’s version Of New Orleans. My first visit was in 2001. I have been back to visit about once a year since then. This is the first entrant into our Weekend Getaway Series. The perfect for rest, relaxation, clearing your mind and recharging life’s battery. You will need a rental car for this trip. Top picks below

LodgingSheraton Portsmouth Harborside Hotel

This is a nice waterfront hotel. While it has the “brand” name, It doesn’t lose the New England Charm. Your best bet for a carefree, relaxing stay.

DiningThe Oar House

This restaurant is amazing. The wine selection was great and the seafood was flavorful and fresh. With variating menu’s for the different times of day, your best bet is to visit their site for a heads up on what best for you. My suggestions are: The Lobster Mac N Cheese, Lobster Bisque, Escargot, Saffron Bouillabaisse, The Oar House Delight, as a matter of fact. The whole Seafood Entree list is worthwhile. I’ve probably had the whole menu outside of the pork dishes. Everything was great. View the Menu: HERE

ShoppingThe Kittery Outlets in Maine

Not only does Kittery Maine have the outlets, but they also have other little boutique shops and restaurants within this town of seemingly nothing but shopping. Kittery is literally a day in and of itself. Just over the bridge from Portsmouth New Hampshire its perfectly convenient for your stay. Sleep and eat Dinner in Portsmouth, shop and try a FRESH Lobster roll in Kittery Maine.

There’s plenty of dive bars if you want to go out for a drink or listen to a local band and mingle with the locals. If you go for a stroll late night you can even find a few ice cream shops serving authentic, fresh ice cream to go with your romantic walk.

This New England destination isn’t your prototypical “Fun In the Sun” destination. However, I learned after my first visit here: Sometimes the right place with the right company can make for a great vacation.
