Sports | *New Weekly Installment* “Tuesday’s Take” | #SoPhi

“Tuesday’s Take” is a new weekly installment on the site. With the concept of what they call “Monday Morning Quarterbacks” unfortunately that’s no longer relevant since we have Monday night games. Below are the analysis of three of the writers for this segment. Be sure to tune in every Tuesday.

@BrandonOnSports
You can listen to Brandon every Saturday morning from 10am-12pm on Sports Trap Radio, on UERadiolive.

The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Baltimore Ravens is a grimy, hard fought contest. Somehow, they overcame turning the ball over 4 times, mostly due to the play of Quarterback Mike Vick, and the defense. I will give you my players of the game, on the offense and defense.

Offensive Player of the Week
Brent Celek TE: Celek was Vick’s go to guy all game as he torched the Ravens for 8 catches and 157 yards. He exposed the weakness in the Baltimore defense, especially after safety Bernie Pollard left the game with an injury. The Eagles will need him to be this effective in the middle of the field all season.

Defensive Player of the Week
Demeco Ryans MLB: Ryans had a quiet first half as the Ravens ran the ball right down the Eagles throats, but he was a man possessed in the second half as he led the Eagles defense and helped Philadelphia win it’s second game. 7 tackles(6 solo), 2 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 1 interception. He has been as advertised over the first two games of his Eagles career.

@J_Fengel
Week 2 has come and gone with many teams still dreaming of hoisting the Lombardi trophy in February and a few teams that have managed to let their early season hopes and dreams be crushed by reality. The Eagles with maybe the most impressive victory were able to escape on Sunday with a one point win over the Baltimore Ravens despite three turnovers in the red zone and the loss of two starting offensive linemen. The Arizona Cardinals who also start off at 2-0 provided quite the surprise coming into Gillette Stadium as two touchdown underdogs winning 20-18. After recovering a fumble on what looked to be the game ending drive Danny Woodhead would score a 30 yd touchdown only to have it nullified by a holding penalty. Patriots would ultimately move into FG position with 6 seconds left only to have Gostkowski send his kick left. Arizona has won 9 of their last 11.

The San Francisco 49ers Sunday night playing the Detroit Lions earned their 11th straight victory at home against the Lions behind stifling defense and a solid game from Alex Smith who extended his record streak of passes without an interception. Atlanta and Houston were other teams able to move to 2-0 with impressive wins. My players of the week are the wide receiving duo for the NY Giants who both notched career highs in receptions and yards and who played pivotal roles in NY’s impressive come from behind victory. My bum of the week could go to nobody but Jay Cutler. After being sacked 7 times and throwing 4 horrendous int’s resembled a small child with his antics and berating of J’Marcus Webb. Gotta do better Mr. Cutler

@PhillyTheBoss
I almost fell out of Love this weekend. The pile of striped compost we call referee’s is literally juicing ever ounce of fun out of the game. Also, to hear that, today one told LeSean McCoy of the Philadelphia Eagles “I need you for my fantasy team.” Is beyond ridiculous. The NFL is America’s past time. There is no reason they can’t pay Hochuli and the guys a little more coin to bring respect back to the game we all love.

In other news, the NFL benefits from Andrew Luck & Robert Griffin III both looking like the real deal. We’re far from the days of analyst making David Carr & Joey Harrington Franchise QB’s and we have entered the era of QB’s coming in and showing us that they were everything they advertised themselves. They are both truly impressive rookies. I’m still not sold on Weeden, however because he is the guy no one is sure about, I can agree to the “baptism by fire” method the Browns are using. I still feel that Colt McCoy is much better in the short term. Eagles get a tough win and climb to 2-0, currently being the only undefeated team in the NFC east. However, with a few more mistakes in the stat line. IT WILL cost them later if they don’t correct it. Matty Ice as well as Joe Flacco look as if they are taking the next step with their respected teams.

My Players of The Week on Defense and Offense: The refs. They are the biggest standouts of this weekend in sports and not for good reasons.

My Bum Of The Week: Adrian Peterson. Simply because I lost my fantasy matchup to a woman because of him.
